THE SIMPLE NEWSLETTER - ISSUE # 030
Life moves fast, but clarity comes when we slow down and choose how we show up. This week’s reflection is about shifting from “I have to” to “I choose to” — a simple mindset shift that can change how we experience even the busiest days. Let this be a reminder to approach your time with intention and find meaning in both the moments of rest and responsibility.
ADAM'S THOUGHT
You can have almost anything you want in life. The key lies in shifting your mindset from I have to to I choose to.
As I sit here writing this, I’m preparing for a week at the lake house. There’s a long list of things that have to be done: packing, making plans, taking care of things at home, and dropping the dog off at the in-laws. But instead of focusing on tomorrow’s obligations, I’m choosing to enjoy today.
Right now, I’m sitting outside on the patio with my dog, soaking up the sun, listening to the birds, and sipping coffee from my Atomic Business Coaching mug. When I finish writing this, I’ll wake up my son, and we’ll head to the gym. Later, I’ll defrost some ribeye steaks for dinner, and in between, we’ll visit friends who are celebrating a big milestone for their daughter.
These are all things I’m choosing to do today. And yes, somewhere in between, I’ll tackle the tasks I have to do to prepare for the vacation. But even those tasks are part of the journey, and I’m choosing to approach them with intention and joy.
ADAM'S LESSON
You can’t escape the have to do. No matter how much control you have over your life, there will always be things that are required of you. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to drag yourself through them, kicking and screaming.
If you want to truly be in control, you can integrate the have to into your journey. You can find joy and fulfillment in the process, even if it’s not your favorite thing to do. Whether it’s planning for a vacation, working out your monthly cash flow, hiring a new employee, or redoing something for a client, you can shift your mindset from have to into choose how to.
Here’s the formula:
Choose the path you have to walk.
Walk it slow to go fast.
Speed up so you can slow down.
Expand time at your will.
Compress tasks to their simplest form.
It all comes down to your intention + expectation, followed by your action.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Life can go sideways real quick. The question is: did you choose to turn it that way? And more importantly, where do you choose to go next?
