THE SIMPLE NEWSLETTER - ISSUE # 048
Coming out of Thanksgiving, I found myself reflecting on how much entrepreneurship changes us. A few conversations with family reminded me that I don’t think or operate the way I used to. And that’s not a family issue… it’s the reality of being a business owner. In this issue, I share what that shift really means, why it happens, and how choosing the right people to walk this path with matters just as much as the work itself.
ADAM'S THOUGHTS
Well… how about them apples?
Or better yet—how about those family members?
You probably just spent some time with them on Thanksgiving. And if you’re anything like most business owners, you walked away realizing something: you’re very different now.
Maybe you had very little to say.
Maybe what you did say went over people’s heads.
Maybe it was misunderstood—or completely taken out of context.
Guess what?
That’s not a family problem.
That’s a business owner problem.
You spend every day inside your microcosm.
Your mission.
Your vision.
Your systems.
Your pace.
Your level of excellence.
And out there—in the “real world”—that’s just not how people operate.
Most people aren’t as disciplined as you.
They’re not as committed as you.
They’re not willing to give the same level of effort.
Why?
Because they’re not obsessed.
You became obsessed.
And now you have to decide if that’s a good thing… or a bad thing.
ADAM'S LESSON
Tom and I talk about this often. We don’t use the traditional definition of CEO.
For us, CEO = Commitment. Effort. Obsession. (it’s our Brand)
You chose this path.
And now you have to choose who you walk it with.
You can’t pick your family—but you can pick your clients, your team, your colleagues, your partners, your vendors.
This weekend, while everyone else is shopping, scrolling, and chasing Cyber Monday deals, you have an opportunity to zoom out and evaluate:
Who is actually committed to you?
Who puts in real effort when you ask?
Who is obsessed enough to run with you, not behind you?
These are the people who will help you reach your promised land—your vision, your mission, the thing you’re building that’s bigger than you.
Choosing the right people is as important as choosing the right strategy. Maybe more.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Instead of worrying about what you have to do…
Start considering what you choose to do.
And choose your people wisely.
