HIDDEN ADVANTAGE

The Simple Newsletter - Issue # 033

We often chase new strategies and skills, but our greatest advantage is usually what we already have. This week, let’s uncover the network, reputation, and knowledge you’ve been building for years — and put them to work.

ADAM'S THOUGHTS

Sometimes, you don’t even realize it — but you have a giant advantage you’ve been overlooking.

We work so hard to get things done the “right” way. We study the best methods, position ourselves for the perfect outcome, and build the skills we think we’ll need for peak performance.

It feels like we’re doing all the right things. But then, something’s off — even though we’re sure we’ve done everything right.

Often, it’s because we’ve overlooked what’s been sitting right in front of us. We try to skip past what we already are, in an effort to become something we’re not yet.

ADAM'S LESSONS

Entrepreneur Daniel Priestley talks about three core areas of advantage: network, reputation, and knowledge

Most people chase these relentlessly — but if you stop and really look, you probably already have most (if not all) of them. The problem isn’t that they’re missing; it’s that you don’t value them enough to use them fully.

This is your special sauce

Think about it:

  • The knowledge you’ve gained is often the result of experiences that most people never get — which makes it incredibly valuable to them.

  • You already have people in your network who could help you move forward — even if you think you need “better” connections.

  • You’ve already built a reputation with those you’ve helped — whether you’ve leveraged it or not.

I’ve lived this lesson myself. When I built my financial planning firm, I spent a decade in the boardrooms of hundreds of top entrepreneurs. I also spent time in their homes, learning their desires, mindsets, mistakes, and fears.

It was like a 10-year masterclass in how the most successful people build (and sometimes break) their businesses. And yet — for a long time — I overlooked this unique advantage.

Yes, I’ve built businesses. Yes, I’ve coached countless owners successfully. But not every coach has had this experience: seeing hundreds of success stories and failures across industries, circumstances, and personalities. That knowledge, plus the network and reputation it gave me, is a massive edge I now consciously bring to the table.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Take a moment and look back at the last 10–20 years.

What incredible business or life advantage are you already carrying — but haven’t fully used or told people about?
