The Simple Newsletter - Issue # 042
I’ve watched so many business owners chase complexity, thinking the next new idea or trend will be the answer, when in reality, success always comes back to the basics. In this issue, I want to share how returning to three simple pillars: product, process, and people, can help you find clarity, momentum, and control no matter what stage of business you’re in.
ADAM'S THOUGHTS:
This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about a philosophy that’s everything to me:
Business is simple. It’s just not easy.
I came up with this many years ago, but I’ve realized that a lot of people still struggle with it.
Here’s how simple business really is—it comes down to just three words:
Product. Process. People.
What I’ve been noticing lately is that many of the business owners we work with are struggling to simplify these three things. When something isn’t going right, they start searching for complexity.
They look externally: new tactics, new offers, new messaging.
And while all those things seem exciting—especially when they’re working for someone else—there’s a danger in chasing them. Because the more you look outside yourself, the more you lose what made you great to begin with.
You lose the spark that made your business unique. You lose the foundation that made people love your product.
It might feel good for a moment. It might even work for a month or two. But eventually, it becomes hard to sustain—because it’s not really yours.
ADAM'S LESSON:
When business gets tough, simplify.
A business is just a product, a process, and people.
Product:
Don’t change your product just because something isn’t working. Look closer. What parts of it are truly amazing? Which parts no longer serve you? Emphasize what works. Iterate or remove what doesn’t. The product you already have got you here—respect it, refine it, and keep building on it.
Process:
Do you actually have one? You’d be surprised how many business owners don’t. They just follow the wind each week. Develop a process for how you deliver, how you share, and how you serve. The process is the bridge that lets your product grow.
People:
Whether it’s just you or a whole team, focus on developing the people behind the process. Empower them to deliver what makes your product great.
When you’ve nailed each of these—product, process, and people—there’s only one thing left: consistent execution.
That’s when you see the power in this simple truth: Business is simple. It’s just not easy.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
The “not easy” part? That’s the roller coaster.
Business isn’t a straight line to the top—it’s full of peaks and valleys.
Don’t get lost in either. The highs and the lows both pass. What matters is that you keep doing the work, one simple step at a time.
