THE SIMPLE NEWSLETTER - ISSUE # 014

Tom here—jumping in for Adam this week and writing my very first edition of The Simple Newsletter. I’ve always appreciated how Adam shows up with honesty and practical wisdom, and it’s an honor to carry that forward today.

TOM'S THOUGHT

Learning is a lifelong journey.

When we shift from being employees to becoming business owners, the learning curve often feels steep—like we’ve been dropped into a world where we’re expected to know everything from sales to marketing to operations, overnight. For those who haven’t been in a structured learning environment in years, it can feel overwhelming. But it’s not just the steep learning curve—it’s what we make it mean about ourselves.

Many new business owners feel an unspoken pressure to already have the answers. So when they inevitably run into something they don’t understand—how to price a service, set up a system, or generate leads—they don’t always ask for help. Not because they’re not willing, but because deep down, they feel like they should know already. That shame creates a block. They avoid asking questions, they sit on tasks they don’t fully understand, and they delay decisions that would move them forward.

Instead of leaning into the learning process, they get stuck in a loop of procrastination and self-doubt.

But here’s the truth: not knowing is the starting point of every success story. Learning thrives when we allow ourselves to be curious. When we ask better questions—of ourselves, of others, and of our situations—we shift perspective, we grow, and we unlock momentum.

Life is a series of learning experiences. When we embrace that, we stop seeing “I don’t know” as a flaw, and start seeing it as an invitation to evolve.

TOM'S LESSON

To truly cultivate a mindset of continuous learning, we must recognize that every experience is a teacher. This shift doesn’t just improve our businesses—it reshapes how we show up in every part of life.

Here are some ways to “Do the Thing” and foster that growth mindset:

Ask More Questions

Don’t be afraid to be curious. Questions create movement. They deepen your understanding, help you break through confusion, and uncover hidden insights. Curiosity is a tool—use it often.

Embrace the Unknown

Not knowing something isn’t a flaw—it’s an opportunity. Let go of self-judgment and lean into self-compassion. The unknown is where the good stuff lives. The more you lean in, the more you grow.

Create a Learner’s Mindset

Reframe your challenges. What if every hurdle was actually an invitation to level up? Celebrate small wins, acknowledge your growth, and keep showing up. That’s the mindset that builds momentum.

Change Your Questions

The next time you hit a wall, shift your language. Instead of “Why can’t I do this?” ask, “What can I learn from this?” One question opens a door. The other locks it. Choose the one that moves you forward.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Continuous learning isn’t something you check off a list—it’s a way of life. When we ask better questions, approach challenges with curiosity, and extend grace to ourselves, we grow. Period.

Life will always present obstacles. But when we see each one as a lesson, we stop shrinking and start expanding.

Here’s to curiosity, resilience, and doing the thing—over and over again.

Until next time,

Tom
