The Simple Newsleter -Issue # 037
In this issue, I’m exploring the idea of roots—where they come from, how they shape us, and why they matter more than we often realize. From personal reflection to lessons I share with clients, this edition is about embracing who we already are and using that foundation to grow into the best version of ourselves.
ADAM'S THOUGHTS
What are roots, really?
For a tree, they’re life. For humans, they’re what built us. They’re what made us the people we are today. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad—but either way, it’s us.
I’ve had to take a step back recently and reflect on my own roots. And here’s the truth: they don’t lie.
So much of who I am, what I value, how I act, and the beliefs I hold stems from those roots. Some I chose. Others were thrust upon me. But either way, I acted through them, and they’ve given me life.
Someone recently asked me what my ikigai is. After sitting with it for a moment, I realized: my purpose is the pursuit of the potential of other people’s purpose. Writing that still feels strange... but it’s also deeply true.
And honestly? I kind of like the person those roots have made me.
ADAM'S LESSON
We spend so much energy trying to change. But what if the work isn’t to become someone else what if it’s just becoming a better version of who we already are?
I often remind clients building their businesses: there’s no single “right” way. There’s only your way. The key is to leverage your values, your skills, and your strengths and then have the awareness to bring in support where you’re lacking.
You don’t need to transform into someone new to step into being a CEO. The very courage and skills that allowed you to go out on your own in the first place? Those are the same qualities that will let you lead, grow, and change people’s lives.
We don’t need to abandon who we are. We need to lean deeper into it.
