Adam’s Thoughts

The more Tom and I get out and meet new people… the more I’ve realized something.

Being a business owner is a lot like being a parent.

We’ve met restaurant owners, health practitioners, consultants, and as I talk with each of them, I start to see it clearly.

Some have newborn businesses.

Some have curious toddlers.

Some are dealing with full-blown teenage chaos.

And it hit me:

Raising a business is a lot like raising a child.

This is something Tom and I go deep on in our CEO Reset — the first phase of our Be the CEO program.

Because it all starts with belief.

We say it all the time: Believe. Behave. Become.

Most people start their business because they have a skill.

They turn that skill into income.

They “work for themselves.”

But that’s not the end goal.

That’s just the beginning.

What they really want…

Is to own something.

To build something.

To grow something that can one day stand on its own.

Just like a child.

Adam’s Lessons

The more I use this parenting metaphor, the more I realize:

My original philosophy still holds true.

Business is simple. It’s just not easy.

If you’re a parent, this will feel familiar.

When you first became a parent… you had no idea what you were doing.

Sure, you got advice.

You may have read a book.

Someone told you what to expect.

But then you got home… and it was just you and the baby.

Now what?

You showed up anyway.

You showed up as the parent.

Even though you were scared.

Even though you didn’t have all the answers.

You became the caregiver.

The protector.

The guide.

Business is the same.

Show up as the parent of your business.

Not the employee.

Not the helper.

The one responsible for its growth.

It’s going to be hard.

You’re not going to know everything.

But if you show up with that identity…

You’ll grow into it.

That’s what we help people do.

Not babysit the business — but guide the person who’s building it.

Because when your beliefs shift…

Your behaviors change.

And that determines who you become.

So let’s become great parents.

Let’s become the CEO of the business we’ve built.

So here’s my question for you this week:

Are you showing up as the parent of your business… or are you still treating it like something you just have to manage?

That’s all for this week.

See you next Saturday.

P.S.

If your business still depends on you to survive, you may not be leading it the way you think you are. Click below to find out why so many owners stay stuck managing instead of truly building.
